Let's say
you measured the condition
of your heart
every five minutes
for a whole day
and plotted all those points
on a graph.
Today,
my heart
hugged the median
all day.
It didn't plunge
below the x-axis,
or soar up exponentially,
nearing the asymptote
of pure joy.
I didn't listen too closely
in church.
I wasn't moved.
I craved sweets
and felt impatient.
I just lived
another day
as me,
not skewed toward either pole.
That's what makes it
the median.
